PAY RANGE

The Target Pay Range for this position is $23.37-$28.51 hourly. The full Pay Range is $21.11-$33.70 hourly. At BECU, compensation decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, and education or training. Should an offer for employment be made, we will consider individual qualifications. In addition to your salary, compensation incentives are available for the hired applicant. Employees and their eligible family members have access to a wide array of employee benefits, such as medical, dental, vision and life insurance coverage.  Employees have access to disability and AD&D insurance.  We also offer health care and dependent care flexible spending accounts, as well as health savings accounts, to eligible employees.  Employees are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan and employer-funded retirement plan.  Newly hired employees accrue 6.16 hours of paid time off (PTO) on a per pay period basis based on hours worked (up to a maximum of 160 PTO hours per year) and receive ten paid holidays throughout the calendar year. IMPACT YOU’LL MAKE:

As a Loan Loss Recovery Support Specialist, you’ll play a critical role in helping BECU recover charged-off accounts and maintain financial strength. Your attention to detail and proactive approach will ensure that recovery processes run smoothly and efficiently. You’ll be the backbone of administrative support for our recovery team, making sure every action aligns with compliance standards and member-focused values. *** This role includes onsite training at our Tukwila, WA location to set you up for success. After training, you’ll transition to a hybrid schedule that combines remote work with required onsite days each week at our office in Tukwila, WA.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Champion Compliance: Perform all responsibilities in alignment with BECU competencies, regulatory requirements, and information protection standards.

  • Navigate Legal Requirements: Apply your knowledge of state and federal laws related to collections, levies, liens, and consumer rights to ensure every step is compliant.

  • Track Account Progress: Monitor and document the status of pending accounts in the Collection System to keep recovery efforts organized and accurate.

  • Stay Proactive: Maintain timely follow-up on all collection accounts to drive results and prevent delays.

  • Locate Debtors: Use skip-tracing tools and techniques to find individuals and initiate recovery conversations.

  • Negotiate Solutions: Work with debtors, attorneys, and third parties to reach fair settlements on charged-off accounts.

  • Handle Escalations: Serve as a trusted resource for resolving complex collection issues.

  • Document Processes: Ensure all responsibilities are backed by clear, written procedures for consistency and transparency.

  • Identify Risks: Report any issues that could impact recovery efforts or pose risks to the Credit Union.

  • Manage Vendor Interactions: Review invoices, request checks, process payment coupons, and compile account documents as needed.

  • Audit Daily Operations: Verify input of new charged-off accounts, payments, and account closures for accuracy.

  • Coordinate Communications: Manage incoming and outgoing communications—email, voicemail, letters—and track complaints or issues impacting the department.

  • Prepare Work Queues: Organize and report on department queues, including dialer systems and miscellaneous tasks.

  • Update Credit Bureaus: Ensure credit reporting is accurate and timely, and prepare documentation for portfolio sales.

  • Support Additional Duties: Take on other responsibilities as needed to support the team and mission.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of telephone collections and/or administrative and/or financial institution experience.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work well under deadlines.
  • Full-time hours required, with additional hours as necessary.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Collections experience at a financial institution.
  • Experience with legal collections.
  • Certification or knowledge of the laws and regulations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
  • Ability to adapt to changes within working responsibilities, whether internal, market-driven, or regulatory.
