PAY RANGE
The Target Pay Range for this position is $31.11-$37.88 hourly. The full Pay Range is $24.14-$44.90 hourly. At BECU, compensation decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, and education or training. Should an offer for employment be made, we will consider individual qualifications. In addition to your salary, compensation incentives are available for the hired applicant. Employees and their eligible family members have access to a wide array of employee benefits, such as medical, dental, vision and life insurance coverage. Employees have access to disability and AD&D insurance. We also offer health care and dependent care flexible spending accounts, as well as health savings accounts, to eligible employees. Employees are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan and employer-funded retirement plan. Newly hired employees accrue 6.16 hours of paid time off (PTO) on a per pay period basis based on hours worked (up to a maximum of 160 PTO hours per year) and receive ten paid holidays throughout the calendar year. As a Consumer Loan Underwriter at BECU, you’ll play a critical role in helping members reach their financial goals with confidence and clarity. Your ability to evaluate, analyze, and guide loan decisions ensures members receive not just fast answers—but the right solutions tailored to their needs. You’ll be at the center of key decisions that directly impact people’s lives, partnering across channels, including dealerships, to uphold our commitment to smart, member-first lending. Your expertise will influence quality, service, and process enhancements as you support a culture of continuous improvement and shared success.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Deliver Thoughtful Loan Decisions:
Review, analyze, underwrite, and approve consumer loans based on your designated lending authority, all while adhering to BECU’s lending policies and guidelines.Apply Your Lending Expertise:
Use your deep knowledge of real estate lending practices, credit policies, and compliance regulations to assess a wide range of consumer loans and credit lines.Support Members & Dealers Effectively:
Engage directly with dealerships and internal teams to evaluate applications, resolve issues, and ensure timely and courteous communication with members and partners.Communicate Loan Outcomes with Care:
Provide clear, respectful explanations for loan denials or counteroffers, and walk members through alternative lending options.Champion Process Improvements:
Monitor workflows and recommend enhancements that boost productivity and service level performance across the team.Be a Credit Education Resource:
Help members understand their credit reports and financial standing, empowering them to make smarter financial choices.Analyze Complex Financial Information:
Confidently review tax returns and cash flow to identify loan eligibility and restructure opportunities when needed.Collaborate with Leadership:
Elevate loan decisions that exceed your authority to leadership with clear, well-documented recommendations.Maintain Quality Standards:
Ensure loans align with BECU’s portfolio quality expectations and regulatory requirements.Drive Service Excellence:

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in business or equivalent work or education-related experience.
Minimum three years of lending-related experience.
Ability to make sound credit recommendations and decisions.
Mathematical skills with a high degree of accuracy.
Verbal and written communication skills in English.
Ability to effectively problem solve and troubleshoot difficult member situations.
Full-time availability, with flexibility to work varying schedules and additional hours as necessary.
Desired Qualifications:
Typically one year of consumer lending underwriting experience including all secured, unsecured, indirect.
