PAY RANGE
The Target Pay Range for this position is $28.27-$34.47 hourly. The full Pay Range is $21.93-$40.77 hourly. At BECU, compensation decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, and education or training. Should an offer for employment be made, we will consider individual qualifications. In addition to your salary, compensation incentives are available for the hired applicant. Employees have access to disability and AD&D insurance. We also offer health care and dependent care flexible spending accounts, as well as health savings accounts, to eligible employees. Employees are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan and employer-funded retirement plan. Newly hired employees accrue 6.16 hours of paid time off (PTO) on a per pay period basis based on hours worked (up to a maximum of 160 PTO hours per year) and receive ten paid holidays throughout the calendar year. As a Loan Loss Recovery Specialist at BECU, you’ll be at the forefront of reclaiming financial resources that fuel our ability to serve members better. You’ll use your expertise to recover charged-off accounts, ensuring every action you take supports our mission and strengthens our financial health. Your work will directly contribute to BECU’s resilience and growth, and you’ll be empowered to make decisions, solve problems, and continuously improve processes. WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Negotiate Settlements: Collaborate with debtors, attorneys, and third parties to reach fair and effective resolutions on charged-off accounts.
Apply Legal Expertise: Use your knowledge of state and federal collection laws to guide recovery efforts and ensure compliance.
Track Account Progress: Monitor and document the status of all pending accounts using our Collection System to keep recovery efforts on track.
Follow Up Proactively: Maintain consistent and timely follow-up on legal and collection accounts to drive results.
Locate Debtors: Use skip-tracing tools and techniques to find individuals and initiate recovery conversations.
Improve Processes: Identify and recommend enhancements to Loan Loss Recovery procedures that boost efficiency and outcomes.
Ensure Legal Compliance: Act swiftly and accurately in accordance with Washington State and federal laws regarding collections, levies, liens, and documentation.
Support Escalations: Serve as a go-to resource for resolving complex Loan Loss Recovery issues.
Document Procedures: Ensure all responsibilities are backed by clear, written procedures for consistency and transparency.
Report Recovery Risks: Flag any issues that could impact recovery efforts or pose risks to the Credit Union.
Review Vendor Bills: Check invoices from vendors for accuracy and completeness to ensure proper billing.
Manage Daily Operations: Input new charged-off accounts, process payments and returned mail, prepare and file Chapter 7 & 13 proofs of claim, and draft correspondence.
Coordinate with Agencies: Forward accounts to collection agencies and maintain strong communication as their liaison.
Update Credit Bureaus: Ensure credit reporting is accurate and timely, and prepare documentation for portfolio sales.
Support Additional Duties: Take on other responsibilities as needed to support the team and mission.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in Business Administration, or equivalent work or educational experience.
- Minimum 5 years of customer service experience, including 3 years in collections.
- Knowledge of the laws and regulations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
- Ability to exercise confidentiality and discretionary judgment.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member, using discretion and sound judgment.
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- PC skills, with the ability to learn new software.
Desired Qualifications:
- Previous experience with financial services products, collections.
- Certifications related to collections or legal recovery.
- Experience with legal collections.
- Knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to collections.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work well under deadlines.
