PAY RANGE
The Target Pay Range for this position is $134,200.00-$164,000.00 annually. The full Pay Range is $104,200.00 - $194,000.00 annually. At BECU, compensation decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, and education or training. Should an offer for employment be made, we will consider individual qualifications. In addition to your salary, compensation incentives are available for the hired applicant. Incentives are performance based and targets vary by role.BENEFITS

Employees have access to disability and AD&D insurance. We also offer health care and dependent care flexible spending accounts, as well as health savings accounts, to eligible employees. Employees are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan and employer-funded retirement plan. Newly hired employees accrue 6.16 hours of paid time off (PTO) on a per pay period basis based on hours worked (up to a maximum of 160 PTO hours per year) and receive ten paid holidays throughout the calendar year. IMPACT YOU’LL MAKE:
As a Special Assets Officer at BECU, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the financial health of our commercial lending portfolio. By proactively identifying and resolving problem loans, you’ll be instrumental in protecting the credit union’s assets and minimizing potential losses. Your expertise will directly influence strategic decisions and ensure that BECU’s commercial real estate and business services remain strong and stable. Your impact will be seen in both the management of risk and the guidance you provide to leadership in navigating complex credit situations. WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Compliance & Regulation Management: Ensure all responsibilities align with BECU Competencies, regulatory, compliance, and Information Protection standards. Your attention to detail will help maintain BECU’s integrity and legal standing.
Commercial Loan Loss Analytics: Review and develop analytics for loans rated “special mention” or worse, driving the negotiation process for complex loans. Your work will lead to effective action plans that address loan deficiencies and minimize risks for BECU.
Problem Loan Portfolio Management: Serve as the primary officer for Business Services' problem loan portfolio. You’ll manage direct credits requiring comprehensive risk actions, guiding teams in early identification of potential problems and finding the best solutions.
Member Engagement & Risk Mitigation: Engage with problem loan members, monitor financial performance, and create action plans to resolve issues. Your diligence in monitoring collateral and financials will be key in reducing loss exposure to the credit union.
Financial Analysis & Risk Assessment: Analyze borrower and guarantor financial health, focusing on liquidity and cash flow, while assessing the potential for asset sales and global credit risk. You’ll use your financial acumen to ensure BECU’s continued security.
Workout & Legal Compliance: Ensure timely resolution of workouts and maintain compliance with legal requirements to protect the credit union’s position. Your expertise in TDR regulations, non-accrual, and charge-offs will help safeguard our assets.
Project Viability & Credit Verification: Collaborate with credit analysts to assess the viability of projects and ensure accurate verification. Your insights will be critical in making informed decisions about loan restructuring and risk management.
Legal Counsel Collaboration: Consult with legal counsel both inside and outside BECU to perfect collateral and develop strategies for protecting the credit union’s interests. Your advice will guide the legal process to minimize potential risks.
Modification & Forbearance Approvals: Present modification or forbearance requests to the appropriate authorities for approval. Your strategic input will ensure that decisions align with BECU’s goals and policies.
Feedback for Future Loan Structuring: Provide feedback to Underwriting and Credit Administration to assist in structuring future loan requests. Your insights will shape how loans are approached, inspected, and underwritten in the future.
Strategic Leadership & Collaboration: Collaborate with the Director of Business Credit Administration and the Chief Credit Officer to develop the most effective strategies for individual workouts. Your leadership will help align team efforts toward success.
Regulatory Compliance & Documentation: Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, and coordinate with other departments to ensure adherence. Your efforts will help keep BECU’s operations aligned with industry standards.
Operational Reporting & Documentation: Maintain operational audit reports and statistical records to ensure transparency and compliance. You’ll be responsible for keeping necessary records up-to-date and ensuring they are easily accessible.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in business, or equivalent work or education related experience.
Minimum 10 years of experience in commercial real estate, including special credits workout, negotiating complex loans including bankruptcies, foreclosures and multiple-owner properties.
Minimum 5 years of experience underwriting high-risk, complex commercial loans in a fast-paced, high-growth financial institution.
Desired Qualifications:
Master’s degree
Experience with commercial and industrial (C & I) lending.
Demonstrated ability to understand key market trends and be proactive in evaluating potential market risk and knowledge of trends and developments in the business credit environment.
Demonstrated analytical and work out skills.
Experience working with appraisal valuations and property evaluation, risk rating systems, non-accrual and charge-off processes, regulatory requirements related to business lending and services Troubled Debt Restructure (TDR) requirements and administration.
Understanding of financial institution departments with business lending responsibilities.
Project management, leadership and negotiation skills.
