Director, Product Strategy - Data


The Director, Product Strategy - Data is responsible for leading the development and execution of BECU’s product management and development strategy for internal and member-facing data products.   In partnership with various BECU business units/departments, the Director, Product Strategy- Data develops and executes the data product roadmap to drive the credit union’s growth, member engagement objectives, and internal efficiencies. The incumbent is also responsible for evaluating and recommending external business partnership opportunities for products. 


  • Perform all responsibilities in accordance with BECU Competencies, compliance, regulatory and Information Protection requirements.
  • Lead the development of BECU’s data products, capabilities and strategy.
  • Research demand for raw, derived, and mastered data, reporting, analytics, insights, algorithms decision support, and automated decision making, and consumption approaches and develop the data product roadmap.
  • Develop and implement an overall data product strategic business plan to meet and exceed the credit union’s growth and member engagement objectives across all markets and channels.
  • Partner with key product, channel and project management stakeholders across BECU to drive data product initiatives.  Coordinate the planning and implementation of product initiatives and campaigns with key business partners.
  • Lead the identification of opportunities for new BECU data product initiatives to respond to changing market and technological conditions in channels and across delivery systems by researching and preparing business cases for senior management approval and ultimately act as the key business stakeholder throughout the change delivery process. 
  • Build the business case for BECU’s data product investments driven by member requirements, the competitive landscape, and overall credit union strategy.
  • Work with key business stakeholders, IT, Channel and Digital management to develop detailed business requirement documents, project plans and processes/procedures, ensuring projects are completed with expected quality, and within the established timeframe and budget while delivering the expected benefits defined in the business case.
  • Analyze and evaluate new concepts and develop product and marketing strategies to determine feasibility and market potential.  Advise division senior leadership of potential delivery capabilities through strategy presentations that define markets, product design, revenue growth, marketing costs, alternative systems, operating expenditures and capitalization.
  • Drive data product thought leadership at the enterprise and industry levels including partnering with external credit union industry groups, financial institutions, marketing communications and PR agencies to influence key stakeholders and analysts in the market.
  • Work with engineering, architecture, and data science teams to design, deploy, and maintain machine learning algorithms in member facing products and services.
  • Lead enterprise data, business intelligence, analytics, and visualization teams directly or in a matrixed operating model, adhering to product management and agile development principles.
  • Ensure data products are compliant with BECU’s risk and regulatory environment, include data governance, cybersecurity, privacy, and diversity and inclusion guidelines.
  • Represent the Credit Union at trade events and informational activities.
  • Perform additional duties, as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing or product management/development or equivalent work or educational experience required.  
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in Product Management/ Development required.
  • Minimum 7 years of management experience required.
  • Experience managing data products and teams focused on enterprise wide Data Strategy, Analytics and Insights, Enterprise Data, AI/ML algorithm, Master Data Management etc.
  • Experience working in strategy preferred.
  • High impact, cross-functional project management experience required.
  • Experience working in fast-paced, growth-oriented financial institutions preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills to effectively communicate with executive leadership, management, staff, and outside contacts.
  • Excellent analytical and project management skills.
  • Ability to research and compile information for the purpose of recommending product and/or services marketing opportunities.
  • Full time hours required, with additional hours as necessary to accomplish objectives, goals, and projects.
